Jimmy Shergill

Jasjit Shergill popularly known as Jimmy is an actor who comes in Indian movies. Jimmy hails form Punjab and was born on 3rd December 1970. Jimmy was a student of Hindu College in Delhi. Before making his debut in Bollywood movies, Jimmy had featured in music videos and the most popular was ‘Woh Kaun Thi’ sung by singer Jojo. His debut film was the much acclaimed film ‘Maachis’ which was directed by the critically acclaimed filmmaker Gulzar. Though Jimmy had a little role in the film he had portrayed it very well. Jimmy shot to fame with the 2000 release film ‘Mohabbatein’. The movie was produced under the Yahs Raj banner and was directed by the famous Aditya Chopra. He starred along with many new comers and also Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Jimmy Shergill has taken his acting course at Roshan Taneja. Jimmy can be considered as one of the under-rated actors of Bollywood. This hard working actors has many memorable film in his kitty, some of which are ‘Haasil’ which came in 2003 and was directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and also had Irrfan Khan who played a negative role, ‘Yahaan’ directed by Shoojit Sarkar was based in Kashmir and here Jimmy played an army man. Some of his recent roles in the movies like ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’ ,’Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and ‘Eklavya’ are well appreciated. Jimmy Shergill has also worked in Punjabi movies and those include ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ and the recent movie, ‘Mannat’. Mona and Pali

The two sisters are from Bengal and have put Kolkata in fashion map of India are Mona and Pali. They have the same home and they both share the same passion for fashion and designing. Mona Lamba after her graduation chose to be a teacher while her sister Pali Sachdev who has a legal background took training in fashion designing from a reputed fashion institute in Singapore. Soon with their dedication and determination the sister duo gave in their inner aspiration, a natural refined urge and chose their respective profession to fulfill their dream.

In the year 1985, Mona and Pali on their friends’ insistence designed the clothes with competence and were also successful. The started off in 1987 and with their boutique ‘Monapali’ in Kolkata, they began to turn their dream into a reality. They are considered as the stalwarts of the Indian fashion industry. They have retailed through their outlets in New Delhi (Hauz Khas Village), Ahmedabad and other important parts of India. In their clothes, which from casuals to heavy formals, there is a combination of various design elements, most of which are inpired from ethnic roots of cultural India. The use of unconventional combinations of mediums makes their designs a stand apart from the rest. They have had innumerable shows in and outside India. In the year 1996, they first created a collection in Shibori, a Japanese stitch dye technique. In China in the ‘Festival of India’ in 1994 and the Bridal summit- Asia Pacific in 1999, in New Delhi, they have represented India.

Abu and Sandeep: Friends and designers forever!

Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are regarded as the big boys of the fashion industry. They have been creating magic and mesmerizing people for over two decades. Both are regarded the first names of the Indian fashion industry to make it big though success, attention, fame and also hype. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla were one of the first who made a display of their creations at Harrods. They have captivated the world with their extensive and exclusive designs. Their unique creations make them a stand apart from the rest. Both of them have come from different backgrounds and they have no formal training in fashion designing. Though they lack the formal training their designs are no less good than other. With their ethnic fashion and innovative designs Abu and Sandeep has taken the Indian fashion industry to great heights.

Abu and Jani had met in a café in Mumbai where they decided to enter the fashion world with their shawl designs, but soon they started designing garments. Abu and Sandeep has designed for well known personalities like as Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, Parmeshwar Godrej together with international personalities like Dame Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Lindy Hemming and Sophie Marceau. Their designs are sought after in many charitable events including the Art of Giving Charity, British Council’s Enduring Image Exhibition and Save the Children Charity. Their remarkable journey is documented in the book ‘A Celebration of Style’ which was launched in 2000. Abu and Sandeep were honored with the 2003 Designer Wars Championship in London.

Anamika Khanna

Anamika Khanna: A mix of East and West !
Anamika Khanna can be regarded as the one of the top Indian fashion designers of the Indian fashion industry. Her innovative and unique designs have given a new dimension to the Indian fashion. She has no formal training in fashion designing. She won the ‘Damania Fashion Awards’ which paved way for her career to start on a promising note. And within a small span of time, Anamika Khanna became very famous which definitely is the result of her being so talented. The traditional crafts keeps Khanna busy with her business in India. She is one of the two fashion designers from Kolkata to have come in the limelight in the recent past.

Anamika Khanna was also awarded with the Damania Fashion Hall of Fame, the Exports Council Award and the Texcellence Award for Outstanding Boutique. Her work basically comprises two lines – Pret and Couture. Anamika Khanna is one of the most talented fashion designers of India and is most likely to make a mark in the international front as well with her effortless mixture of traditions of India with Western styles. Designer Anamika Khanna has already launched in 2004 her international label Ana-Mika all around the world. She is the first ever designer from India to do it. She believes in designing the international clothes in an international way. She also emphasizes on the Indian touch in her designs which make those the most unique. Her newness in the designs will surely take the Indian fashion industry to the top in the coming years.

Neeta Lulla

Neeta Lulla is full of sincerity and dedication.
Neeta Lulla is a well-known name not only in the Indian fashion industry but also throughout the world of fashion. She has designed for one and all in the Indian film industry. It will be hard to name a film person for whom Neeta has not created wonders with her designs. Her sincerity and dedication in her work always blossom in her magnificent designs. The clients in her kitty include Bollywood biggies like Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, Tabu, former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, Raveena Tandon, Mahima Chaudhary and Shilpa Shetty. Neeta has designed for a number of films of Bollywood. Starting from the lily white ‘salwaar kameez’ which Sridevi wore in ‘Chandni’ to the shimmering mirror worked ‘chaniya choli’ of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to the opulence of ‘Taal’ and to the rich vibrance of ‘Devdas’, Neeta has designed for all.

Neeta Lulla has even designed for the period film ‘Kisna’ which was directed by Subhas Ghai. Neeta feels that designing for this periodic film was most challenging and toughest till date. She had to go for lots of research, Neeta had to design in such a way that it should appeal to the director ad the audiences and also should match with the background. Neeta has a flagship store. This store has benefited those who wanted to buy her clothes but did not know how to approach her. The two lines of designs on display are Diffusion (Neeta Lulla Nishq) and Bridal (Neeta Lulla Coutre). Neeta Lulla is regarded as one of the best designers till date.

Ritu Kumar

The lady who pioneered fashion: Ritu Kumar
The lady who pioneered the term ‘fashion’ in the Indian context is none other than the famous fashion designer from India Ritu Kumar. Her major contribution has been in reviving the Indian traditional craft and design. She is one of those very few who has emphasized the importance of hand-made products because it can be cost-effective and looks more gorgeous than machine made clothes. More than two decades back, Ritu had started with hand block printers in a village near Kolkata. Now she has come a long way with her dedicated and committed designers. Her work mainly focuses on cotton, silk and leather. Her forte is traditional Indian clothes, which mainly highlights on India’s textile and embroidery. But she also gives importance to the combination of Indian and western wear.

This Indo-West wear has block prints trapping, embroidery and craft input on a western style. Ritu Kumar has designed the wardrobes for Miss India like Manpreet Brar, Rani Jeyraj, Ruchi Malhotra, and Lara Dutta during their preparation for the international pageant. And they were all awarded with the Most Outstanding Evening Gown in International pageants. She has a boutique named after her ‘Ritu’s Boutique and has many outlets throughout India. Ritu Kumar has launched her book ‘Costumes and Textiles of Royal India’. International personalities like Late Princess Diana, and Jemima Khan wear her outfits. The awards which she has won include ‘Lifetime Achievement Award set by NIFT’ , ‘Outstanding Woman Entrepreneur Award by PHDCC’ and ‘ Lifetime achievement award at the Kingfisher Fashion Fantasia’.

Rohit Bal

India’s Master of fabric and fantasy: Rohit Bal !
This graduate in history with a first class degree from New Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College is a much acclaimed name in the Indian Fashion Industry. In a special report of Times magazine in 1996, Rohit Bal was named as ‘India’s Master of fabric and fantasy’. His high profile clientele includes many of India’s famous names from media, film, fashion and the corporate world. Before making it big in the Indian fashion industry, this extremely talented and creative person has worked with his brother’s export company. He created his first line of traditional designer wear for men in the year 1990 and the rest is history. He is very much concerned with design as an art form. Everything he has created and is creating is a masterpiece, for which he relied on history, fantasy and folklore.

He is the trendsetter. His sense of fashion is intelligent, studied and also imaginative and inspiring. He has finely hones his aesthetics. He works his each design to perfection with tremendous attention given in every detail. Rohit has designed for both well-known Indian and foreign personalities and the names include Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell and many more. The famous tennis player Anna Kournikova has walked the ramp for his show. Rohit has been successful in displaying his masterpieces in the fashion shows around the world which include countries like New York, London, Paris, Dubai, Singapore, Mauritius, Sao Paolo and all the major cities in India including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Calcutta.
