Bombay to Bangkok
0Shreyas Talpade’s new film Bombay to Bangkok is boring, with low production values, and an uninteresting view of Thailand. Bombay to Bangkok is a Hindi movie directed by the acclaimed director Nagesh Kukunoor. It stars the versatile Shreyas Talpade [of Iqbal fame] as the male lead and newcomer Lina Christianson as his muse.
The absurd nature of the story is evident from scene one. The plotline and the direction are far less worth in quality from the earlier films by the director and a disappointment to his ardent fans. The story is dull and conventional. Though the direction could be given some kudos, but the overall image is not so rosy. While shooting in Bangkok, the director (and his cinematographer) fails to bank on the beauty and exotic locales of Thailand. Another major flaw is the woody characterization and lack luster acting by the female lead, Lina Christianson. The recurring dream sequences gets annoying gradually and fails to evoke humor. Slapstick humor and in-your-face comedy tactics are used to woo the viewer which is to no avail. A cameo by Naseeruddin Shah is absolutely unnecessary and contributes only the star value to the film and none to the plot. The climax of the movie is arid and absurd. The only culture Kukunoor depicts involves a group of traditional dancers, initiating into monkhood, insect food platter, bowls of Pad Thai noodles, Shah Rukh Khan-loving locals, amusing accents and massage parlour women looking to ‘make happy’. That too through the medium of Sudeep Chaterjee’s lacklustre camerawork and Kukunoor’s feeble writing.
But there is some positive aspects in the film too. Shreyas’ acting is the only saving grace of the film. As he his earlier efforts, this time he walks away with accolades even for a poorly written character. Also the comic act from Vijay Maurya, as he tries to rap and don the Don’s mantle, is pretty humorous.
Overall a film you may watch if you have nothing else to do on a boring weekend!

sexy satin
Gods of Couture love dressing women in sexy satin. There’s nothing like the luxury of smooth satin. Be it satin gowns, skirts, slips or lingerie, satin is this season’s favourite fabric. Romancing in satin builds a mood. Curvy women know how soft satin can highlight their sensual curves.
Remember, Marilyn Monroe’s satiny dress when she performed Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Years later, Madonna recreated the same satiny look in her song Material Girl. From red carpet walk at the Oscars to bollywood award nights, satin simply rules. Designer Nikhil Mehra explains why satin is in vogue, “Satin reflects luxury. It’s a fabric that understands feminity. Women just love the way it drapes around your body, it makes you fall in love with it.”
The good thing about satin is, you can wear it during the day and night. Designer Ranna Gill says, “Satin is all about sheer sheen. The best way to wear satin is in simple silhouettes, soft pleats, delicate drapes with dazzling accessories. A satin top during the day time teamed with a skirt looks so stylish and a black satin knee length dress is perfect for the evenings.”
Satin itself is such a lush and rich fabric that don’t go over the top while dressing. The key to this trend is to add a touch of glimmer without overdressing; wear just one embellishment at a time. Skinny sequinned scarves and pretty beaded bracelets can add trendy sparkle to any outfit. While jewel-accented hairbands and colourful vintage brooches achieve lady-like glamour instantaneously.
Designer Leena Singh says, “You can glamourise your satin dress with a sparkling clutch bag. It is a complete fabric. The fall of satin dresses is so powerful that you don’t need to do much for creating a style statement.”
The fabric is highly romantic. Designer Urvashi Kaur believes that satin adds elegance and sophistication to structured outfits. “The fluidity of satin makes it versatile. Satin tapes create a series of motifs on flowing georgettes. Satin colours can range in delicious palette from olives and butterscotch to dusky pinks and caramels.”
Satin has a plethora of attention-grabbing applications. Satin scarves, bags, shoes, belts, lingerie and night wears are equally popular with women. Sujata Assomull, Director Communications of Murjani group who are bringing Jimmy Choo and La Perla to India says, “Shoes in nude satin and silver soft satin bags will rock this season. Satin innerwear in tantalising colours is something to die for. Besides, the nightwear also makes a chic statement in satin.”
So, go ahead and splurge on satin!
